Summer 2018 Restorative Practice Opportunities

The Saint Paul Federation of Teachers and Saint Paul Public Schools are offering a wide variety of opportunities for educators in Saint Paul to learn more about restorative practices. Courses Offered by SPFT 

Two Day Introduction to Restorative Practices for EA and SCSP Member Leaders

  • Dates: June 13-14 from 9:00am to 3:30pm

In this new course and training, Educational Assistants and School Community Service Professionals in their essential roles and relationships within schools will be centered.  What is the role of an EA and SCSCP and their restorative practice leadership? Affinity space will be provided for these dynamic and vital school leaders for their introduction to restorative practices.

Beyond Curiosity: Continued Learning and Experience in Restorative Practices

  • Dates: June 26-28 from 9:00am to 3:30pm

  • Cost: Free for teams of four educators who work at a school that applied to be an RP Pilot Site

Designed for those who have experienced at least 2 full days of RP training, this continuation of a restorative practice educator journey will support an introduction to the implementation of restorative practices, how language and questioning in a restorative culture might look, sound and feel, and how teams of educators can collaborate for grade level, PLC or school wide restorative agreements.  

Restorative Practices in a Montessori Community

  • Dates: July 17-18 from 9:00am – 3:30pm

Being part of a Montessori community shapes and defines the identities of educators.  Come explore how Montessori and restorative practices intersect and engage in inquiry about how one can support, honor, and uplift the other.  Experience the circle process with others in the Montessori community while you consider how your values as a Montessori educator may find grounding and support in restorative practices and what restorative practices may look like in your classrooms and personal and professional spaces.

Administrator and Restorative Leadership Retreat

  • Dates: July 19-20 from 9:00am to 3:30pm

Designed for administrators and RP site leaders to support shared restorative practice learning, implementation plan development, alternative to suspension with greater accountability, and exploration of SCIPS, existing teams and more. Bring a favorite talking piece day one.

Restorative Practice Leadership Intensive: Moving Towards Whole School Implementation 

  • Dates: July 30-31 from 9:00am to 3:30pm

This 2 day workshop is designed for restorative practice leadership teams to collaboratively experience restorative practices training as well as intentional time for implementation plans.  School sites are recommended to send a representation of stakeholders so that family engagement, student voice, educator experience and whole school culture plans may be conceptualized inclusive of multiple voices.  Attendees will be joined by multiple restorative practice leaders to support a diversity of racial perspectives, school experiences and learning modalities.

This two day course will provide an interactive introduction to restorative practices. Together we will delve into the grounding principles of a restorative approach and the values the practice is rooted in, learn about the core components, and engage in an experiential introduction to the circle process. It will be two days for learning and being in community with other educators as we explore what restorative practices can look like in your classrooms, within your school community, and in your own life.
